The SC-PM71 is an exceptional sounding unit which has the added convenience of an included portable music player and the ability to record and share via the popular SD card medium. An excellent product but perhaps a little on the pricey side.

Look! It's a Micro HiFi System! It's a portable MP3 player! It's not up in the sky, and it's not without its minor quibbles, but if you need a micro system and an MP3 player with only moderate storage capabilities, it's a good option to pursue.

In Japan and South Korea this unit also has a DVD version which allows transfers from DVD/CD to SD (SC-PM910DVD) at high speed.

I bought this model with a mini disc included as well. It didn't come with a portable SD player but its great to be able to copy from CD to tape, MD or SD, MD to SD or tape, SD to MD or tape. It also records in MDLP. And its also cheap - AUS$370

An improvement would be to include optical input/optical output so that an external digital source can be added. I can't connect my wireless Dolby Digital headphones and need to connect them to the external DVD player to get digital output
