Ashes Cricket 2009 Xbox 360 Review

After almost a decade away, Codemasters' Brian Lara Cricket was resurrected to much fanfare and sales success in 2005. Two years later, the game received an update, and now in the present year of 2009, Brian Lara Cricket is seemingly no more, replaced...

Though the visuals and presentation are more inadequate than they should have been, and the fielding, although improved over 2007’s Brian Lara, could have done with a few more options, Ashes Cricket 2009 is still a wonderful recreation of the sport: a...

Review: Ashes Cricket 2009 (Microsoft Xbox 360)

If you don't have a spare four hours to play out a five day Test, you can customise a one day game with a minimum of five overs per inning and play a game in half an hour. As well as one-off matches you can also set-up one day and Twenty20...

Ashes Cricket 2009

You have no idea how hard it is to write a review of a cricket game without applying a heavy layer of groan-worthy double-entendres and busting out 12th Man or Richie Benaud quotes by the dozen.

All the intricacies of the game are here, including psychological advantages, but they're presented in an accessible manner where some other developers would have complicated things

The overall style of the menus and pre-game graphics are reminiscent of a five year old title. Online support and presentation is dull at best

Super!

Ashes Cricket 2009

The world of video game cricket has been around for well over a decade, delivering us an array of truly diverse titles, from Brian Lara Cricket ?96, to the more recent Flash phenomenon, Stick Cricket. However, the mere fact that the sport of cricket is...

Ashes Cricket 2009 is a rent-first, buy-if-you-dare title. There is a lot to like in its online capabilities, but for a game that promised to elevate the cricketing genre to stellar heights, it has fallen far, far, short of the mark.

Ashes Cricket 2009 review

The problem with sports games is that they struggle to recreate the intensity and passion of the real life event, with the result being a stilted and hollow experience, unless you've had the benefit of making the same game for a decade, over and over. ...

Recreating the cricket experience is only part of making a complete game, and unfortunately a lack of depth means only fans of the sport will derive much enjoyment after the first few hours.

Ashes Cricket 2009 Review:

Ashes Cricket 2009 Review Xbox 360. Two years that's how long it's been since we had a new Ashes cricket game, during which time the English national team have played nine test series, ripped through three captains and watched dumbfounded as ...

Overall the foundations are there to produce an excellent cricket game, however Codemasters will be ultimately very disappointed with this release, rushed with total lack of detail. The game still looks and plays like a late Xbox or very early 360...

Ahh cricket, that most English of sports. While football may be considered our national game there's something quintessentially English about cricket. The very thought of it conjures images of rural village greens, the pleasing sound of leather on...

Ashes Cricket 2009

Ah the joys of cricket, truly there is nothing more relaxing then sitting back for an afternoon of gentle applause, LBW appeals, googlies and fine legs. If you have read that last sentence and decided I may well have lost my mind, then let me assure...

Great for cricket fans but not of much interest to anyone else. The game is easy to pick up and play and has an in depth tutorial system, so with a bit of practice anyone can become a master. That is part of the problem though as the batting seems a...

Ashes Cricket 2009

Impressive cricket sim betrayed by predictable tail end

Satisfying cricketing action ; Overall presentation is impressive ; Interesting commentary

Lacks longevity once mastered ; In-game ugliness ; Early games can be frustrating

And so, once you’ve learned to judge ball speeds from the perspective of both bowler and batter, matches rarely go the distance. A real-world comparison is useful here. At lunch on the first day of the first test in Cardiff, England were at 97/3. At...

Ashes Cricket 2009 - Review

It's quite fitting that today heralds the arrival of the latest cricket game to our videogame retailers' shelves. Hopefully today will also see the start of England cruising to take a 2-0 lead overall in the Ashes as the fourth test starts at...
