Qualcomm Toq review

The TOQ is full of great ideas, but the full package doesn't come together well, and certainly doesn't justify its expensive $350 price

Qualcomm’s TOQ has a great app, looks decent (though large) once you put it on, and uses some cutting edge new technology. Sadly, it’s the most expensive smartwatch yet at $350 and mired in inconvenience. You have to use scissors to cut its wristband...

Review: Qualcomm Toq

Wearables are supposed to be the next frontier for mobile. But as far as smartwatches go, that future is definitely not here yet. And that's...

Excellent battery life. Easy to customize using the Qualcomm Toq Android app. Less clunky looking and feeling than some competitors. You can adjust the band length by cutting it, which makes for a very personalized fit. Plenty of room for improvement...

Not a wide variety of functions yet available. The Mirasol display is pixelated, and colors are dull. Messaging and notifications aren’t very intuitive. I needed help setting up the band and clasp mechanism

Qualcomm Toq review: a brief glimpse at the future of smartwatches

The perfect smartwatch is deceptively simple: give it a great, always-on, glanceable display. Make it last for days on a charge. And for goodness' sake, make it look good — it's on your wrist all...

Best smartwatch display, period ; Decent battery life ; Trick charging system

No iOS compatibility (yet) ; Uncomfortable, non-replaceable band ; Could be better-looking

Qualcomm Toq

Qualcomm's Toq smartwatch proves the long-awaited Mirasol display is worth it, and the watch itself is also fairly capable, but like other smartwatches, it's still too limited for most consumers.

Mirasol color e-paper display is always on, and works indoors and out. Works with any Android phone running Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean. Slick wireless charging with the included dock. Smooth interface. Can configure notifications on a per-app basis.

Expensive. Bulky. Stiff wrist strap is difficult to fasten and size adjustments are permanent. No camera or video recorder. Doesn't make calls. Can't install additional apps. Finicky capacitive buttons. No iOS support.

Qualcomm's Toq app for Android, which resides on the phone, is simple and pretty slick. Pop open the preferences, and there are categories for adjusting appearance (clock styles, icon styles, and favorite applets) and managing notifications, as well as...

Qualcomm Toq review

Qualcomm's take on the smartwatch is here

Simple to use ; Clever screen ; Wireless charging

Small display ; Clunky strap

Qualcomm Toq review

Qualcomm has a smartwatch, and it's called Toq. As in tick tock. It's a nifty little wearable that serves as a companion device to an Android smartphone, and if you're based in the US you can purchase it right now should you so desire. The Qualcomm Toq...

Mirasol display is useful in any lighting condition, an ideal push-notification receiver, Activity applet introduces interesting fitness functionality, free Toq app is an easy-to-use setup centre, wireless charging accessory is fun and fast

Bulky and ugly design, watchstrap requires trimming (with scissors), no camera, no connectivity apart from smartphone, notification previews only, lack of inputs, few applets, expensive, capacitive buttons are tricky to use

The Qualcomm Toq has way too many cons to be considered a finished product. Primarily it's not very pretty for something that's designed to be worn and therefore seen at all times.

Review: Qualcomm Toq smartwatch

Manufacturers are still figuring out what exactly customers want out of smartwatches – if anything at all. So it kinda makes sense that a company like Qualcomm would make a device that's meant to showcase its design and hardware for future...

Review: Qualcomm’s Toq smartwatch lasts an extra, extra, extra long time

5+ days of battery life are great—unfortunately, not much else about the watch is.

Battery life—it really does last five days or more ; Displays texts and e-mails, not just a useless note saying "Hey, check your phone ; Screen is beautifully readable in direct sunlight—in fact, the brighter, the better ; Good build quality—no awful...

Definitely priced at the "crazy early adopter" crowd ; Extremely limited notification interactions and responses ; Mirasol display is fuzzy, with bad color fidelity, and requires a front light to be seen in dim conditions ; Touch screen doesn't always...

Your own expectations are going to play a tremendous role in determining whether or not the Toq is something you want in your life, but man, this device is just a hard sell to anyone except the most rabid smartwatch enthusiast. For me, the Toq isn't...

Qualcomm Toq smartwatch hands-on review

A close look at the Samsung Galaxy Gear's biggest rival

Comparing the Toq to the recently launched Galaxy Gear watch, it definitely has a more premium feel, which is reflected in its price. Dewing said that Qualcomm will offer limited sales of the Toq online sometime this year to get an idea of customer...

Hands-on with Qualcomm’s Toq, the ‘digital sixth sense’ smartwatch

During his keynote, Qualcomm CEO Dr. Paul Jacobs ended a speech about his vision of a “digital sixth sense” by sliding up a sleeve and revealing his smartwatch.

Toq is being made on a small scale, with no plans to sell internationally or to approach other form factors. Rob Chandhok, president of Qualcomm Interactive Platforms, made it clear that this is a small scale production with no intention to compete...
