When Activision released Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam for the Nintendo Wii last November it garnered mixed reactions from both fans and journalists alike. While the simplified controls and linear gameplay...

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam

I've been trying to think, has there ever been a really good racing game that's not been based around driving or piloting something with an engine? Every great car or motorbike racer out there obviously doesn't fit and the same goes for the few...

The courses are partly to blame, while they're full of different routes to take to the bottom this variety actually causes more confusion than excitement and means you often spend a large part of the race completely on your own if you pick a different...

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam Review

More Tony Hawk's on the PS2 as Downhill Jam hops over to Sony's high-achieving system from the Nintendo consoles...

Fun simplistic gameplay ; Insane airs and combos ; Funny characters

Not for hardcore skating fans ; Unchallenging gameplay ; Yet another Tony Hawk's game

Tony Hawk's purists may be put off by more of an arcade style and the wacky racing dynamic to Downhill Jam, but the game still has its strengths and provides a simplistic thrill for skating fans.

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (PS2) review

And you think Wii games are shallow?

Like Raving Rabbids before it this proves that Wii ports really don't work on the PS2. They're just so shallow and casual and easy that it makes it pointless to play. And it's a full price game! If you must buy, try haggling down to a tenner.

Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam (PS2)

Even the greatest gaming franchises of all time have taken small side-steps in genre to increase their mass market appeal. Take that chubby little Italian pipe cleaner with the way-out-of-his-league little blonde honey. While the bread and butter of...

While I still believe the game is better suited for the Wii, I think it has potential as a series on any console. I would love to see a dedication to online modes in a future release and a benefit from the type of tricks you do versus simply doing a...

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam Review

Downhill indeed.

Downhill Jam could've been so much more than a quickie port with just a few key ingredients, such as more tracks and online play. This downhill run may be fun for a little bit, but the uphill climb that follows is too much to bear.

Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam

When it was released last year for the Nintendo Wii, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam was celebrated as a brand new take on the tried and true skating sim formula. While it wasn't perfect, the game did allow you to use the motion-sensing control in unique ways...

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam really wants to be the next SSX, but due to its repetitive levels, boring single player mode, and bad trick system the game never quite hits the same high notes as EA's popular extreme sports series.
