When Activision released Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam for the Nintendo Wii last November it garnered mixed reactions from both fans and journalists alike. While the simplified controls and linear gameplay...

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (PS2) review

And you think Wii games are shallow?

Like Raving Rabbids before it this proves that Wii ports really don't work on the PS2. They're just so shallow and casual and easy that it makes it pointless to play. And it's a full price game! If you must buy, try haggling down to a tenner.

Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam (PS2)

Even the greatest gaming franchises of all time have taken small side-steps in genre to increase their mass market appeal. Take that chubby little Italian pipe cleaner with the way-out-of-his-league little blonde honey. While the bread and butter of...

While I still believe the game is better suited for the Wii, I think it has potential as a series on any console. I would love to see a dedication to online modes in a future release and a benefit from the type of tricks you do versus simply doing a...

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam

Light-hearted humor fills this surface-deep game. The mock interviews with Tony Hawk and the game's stereotypical players before each race are usually a hit or very much a miss. Thankfully, if the lame joke question-and-answer bits are too much for...

Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam

Overall Most of the time we see game franchises being ported to their logical next stage, for example from the GameCube to the Wii, or the PS2 to the PS3.

When a game carries the Tony Hawk label, that usually infers that it’s going to be a good game – the series has just been that good. Downhill Jam is the first in the franchise to have failed miserably. This could have an impact on other titles in...

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam review

The Tony Hawk series has always been about skating around various environments performing huge tricks to accumulate points to reach goals. At least, it was until the Wii came out. The Wii demanded a whole new approach to the Tony Hawk license, that of...

Overall, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam is an excellent game. It switches away from the old Tony Hawk style, but that was starting to get a little stale anyway. This game is an excellent introduction to the Tony Hawk franchise for those who are uninitiated...
