Shining Force EXA

I’ll admit, even I get nostalgic. I long for the days where Shining Force was about controlling a massive army rather than two other characters. I miss the days where you would involve yourself in huge, strategic battles that lasted hours, not...

Shining Force EXA

This once legendary series continues to stray from its exemplary roots.

Shining Force EXA

EXA continues down the path carved by Neo, and doesn't do much to strike out on its own.

Moving into Geo-Fortress is cool; lots of button-mashing action with two main characters; AI doesn't need babysitting

Spontaneous Geo-Fortress battles not cool; doesn't show us much new, and borrows too liberally from Neo

Shining Force EXA

Introduction:

There are a lot of things wrong with this game. There is hardlyany strategy at all, the battles often consist of mindlessly hitting theX button over and over, and the various quests do seem to feel the sameafter a while. If the game was limited to...

Shining Force EXA (PS2)

Excluding fans of the Shining Force series, this game cannot be wholeheartedly recommended.

Decent character design and customization

Bad voice acting; clichéd story; uninteresting gameplay

Shining Force EXA

Ever since Shining Force III, there has not been one redeemable Shining Force game. There, I said it and I stick by it. When Sega decided that the series was better interpreted as action RPGs rather than as strategy RPGs, the franchise died, I was sad,...

I'm a pretty pathetic guy, truth be told. I enjoy games pretty much regardless of how terrible they are, and I did enjoy Shining Force EXA. But I'm not writing this for me, I'm writing it for you, and that means it's time to deliver the hard truth....

Shining Force EXA

Sega has transitioned the Shining series of RPGs fully into the action column. Taking almost every one of its cues from Shining Force NEO, Shining Force EXA does manage to up the ante in the graphics department. The real draw back is that beyond...

This game looks nice ; The character and customization system is very well done

Weak storyline ; Very bland ; Slows down in large combat situations ; Inconsistent presentation

Overall, this is only for long time Sega addicts. If Shining Force was you first RPG (mine was Shining in the Darkness) there may be something for you here. With a huge RPG library on the PS2, there is no reason to play this very bland game.

Shining Force EXA - ps2

There are some nice tunes in Shining Force. Most are just kind of there. The music usually has a whimsical, light-hearted sound to it, which is fitting of the game. The worst part of the sound in Shining Force however, is the voice acting. Oh god, the...

Shining Force EXA

The Shining Force series launched in the early nineties with The Legacy of Great Intention for the good ol' Genesis. Over a decade later, Sega released Shining Force EXA -- a single-player roleplaying game that plunges gamers into interactive worlds of...

Awful sound and repetitive, unchallenging combat wreck any chance this game might have had to succeed with true RPG fans. A few tweaks to this formula, though, and Sega might have something.

Shining Force EXA Review

While this latest Shining branded action RPG isn't perfect, there's enough fun to warrant some interest.

While I have some qualms about EXA, I do think that it offers a solid role-playing game experience. It's certainly better than Shining Tears, but it is by no means as good as those classic Shining titles. It's all well and good that Sega wants to...
