Over the Hedge

My groan at the thought of reviewing a Movie to Game offering could be heard from here to the Mississippi. My experience is that most are thrown together quickly with...

Great Graphics ; Fun 2 Player Co-op ; Fun Missions ; Squirrels + Energy Drinks = Fun had by all

Could’ve done a better job telling the story ; Was Bruce Willis too busy to do R.J.’s Voice Over

Over the Hedge review

Ah, the beautiful woodlands are full of tiny, cute, furry animals. The ground is carpeted with soft, green grass, and the towering trees provide a canopy of shade. Life is quiet and peaceful. As autumn nears its end, and winter drives forward, they...

Innocent, furry woodland creatures get to exact their revenge on the filthy humans

Over The Hedge (PS2) review

It's not hip to be square

By no means a disaster, Over The Hedge just fails to distinguish itself from the slew of other two-bit licensed games that have gone before it. Like the film this will keep you amused for a good hour and a half but not a lot more.

Another reason to steer clear of suburbia.

All of this, combined with the sparsely populated levels and questionable enemies, leads to the tired ho-hum experience we've come to expect from licensed games. Though the target age group will find enjoyment for a few hours, and the mini games and...

Over The Hedge

Gameplay is rather lackluster, to be honest. There are traps to be avoided and items to be pilfered, but the emphasis is on combat that feels stolen from Gauntlet: Legends. Mind-controlled rats will attack you, and you'll beat them off with a bludgeon....

Nearly everything can be broken ; Graphics pretty good for a PS2 title ; Absolute tons of unlockable extras

Repetitive gameplay ; Combat stolen from Gauntlet gets old fast ; Too dark

It's a relatively inoffensive movie tie-in. Your children will love it, but everyone else is better off looking elsewhere for their kicks.

Over the Hedge Review

The film was pretty good, and the game is pretty decent as well.

Lastly, the main game isn't all that long, coming in at about five or six hours. In a way, that's a good thing, as I can't imagine the game lasting much longer without things starting to get a bit old, plus the multiplayer and mini-games will probably...

Wow! Here's something I haven't seen in a long time! A videogame based on a kid's movie! I don't think a major children's movie (or any motion picture in fact) can get by these days without having a game licensed out in an effort to make more money. In...

If you have a child that enjoyed the film you may want to consider picking this one up. The characters are cute and the gameplay is very accessible, which are key components in a kid's game. I wouldn't expect it to last them incredibly long because it...

Over The Hedge Review

Activision's latest DreamWorks film inspired game is a decent game for youngsters ages 10+ but isn't something adults will find all that enjoyable.

In the end Over The Hedge serves a pretty good extension of the film on which it is based and gives kids more quality time with their favorite characters. The co-op play is pretty nice and the mini-games are a great addition to the single-player game....

[Mini-Review] Over the Hedge

Under our expectations.

A prime example that even partnerships like Activision and DreamWorks (which has turned out some fairly enjoyable licensed games) can go wrong. This is a cash-in, and a painfully mediocre one at that.
