Garmin nüvi 55

The Garmin nüvi 55 is a good buy if you need a basic GPS and don't have or want to use a smartphone.

Dead-simple interface. Speed limit alerts. Responsive touch screen.

No lifetime map or traffic updates. Hit-or-miss POI search.

Traffic, Other Features, and Conclusions The base nüvi 55 doesn't include lifetime map or traffic updates, so you won't be able to get alternate routes if you're stuck in a traffic jam. You have to upgrade to the nüvi 55LM ($159.99) to get lifetime map...

Garmin nüvi 30

Product not yet reviewed by PCMag editors.

As a rule, Garmin devices also offer robust point-of-interest (POI) search, including good category breakdowns, as well as searches that update in real time as you drive, complete with compass directions. We didn't review the nüvi 30 specifically, but...

Garmin nüvi 500

The nüvi 500 is a good crossover choice for those who can't afford or don't want to carry separate dedicated automotive and outdoor enthusiast GPS devices.

Rechargeable, user-replaceable battery. IPX7-rated waterproof. Integrated with geocaching.com, a Web site that tracks geocaches. Topographic maps are included.

Lacks text-to-speech conversion in automotive mode. Poor track log handling. Distance to destination didn't work in compass mode. No Bluetooth phone integration.

Garmin nüvi 250

Garmin's nüvi 250 is more affordable than older versions, but not as functional.

Familiar Garmin menu system. Preloaded with maps. Includes some travel kit features.

No text-to-speech conversion. Less-sensitive GPS receiver than the 300 series.

i also noticed that my 250 test unit did not use a state-of-the-art sirfstariii receiver module such as the one found in the 350. garmin describes the 250's receiver, without a brand name, as simply a "sensitive gps receiver," which sounds to me as if...

Garmin nüvi 680

Garmin's super-capable GPS goes way beyond an ordinary navigation device.

Location-based services provide real-time information on traffic, weather, gas prices, and movies. Sensitive receiver. Great 4.3-inch screen.

Pricey. Optional packages such as Fodor's and language guides drive up the price. Not all theaters and gas stations report live data to MSN Direct.

Garmin nüvi 350

Excellent GPS sensitivity and function coupled with new Travel Kit features make the nüvi 350 an excellent electronic travel companion.

Small, lightweight, and easy to use. Preloaded with map and Points of Interest data. Great GPS receiver sensitivity. Fast satellite-acquisition time. Good battery life.

Optional Language ($74.99) and Travel ($75 per region) guides make the total package fairly pricey. No playlist support for MP3 player.

like all of garmin's recently released automotive gps products, the nüvi 350 is extremely easy to use. the only button on it is the power on/off button; all features and functions are accessed via the touch screen. like other garmin products, the main...
